The Dean’s Executive Advisory Council is a highly select and diverse group of business and community leaders who dedicate a portion of their time to enhancing, promoting, and resourcing the quality of business education at MTSU. As a group of experienced professionals, the council provides expert advice, leadership, and direction to Jones College. These efforts also serve to establish strong, dynamic linkages with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. In addition, the council will be instrumental in the ongoing evaluation process critical to the evolution and continuous improvement of the college’s vision and mission statements.

Jami Averwater is a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and Belmont University College of Law. She is the founder and CEO of Hywater Title, which has been noted as one of the fastest growing title companies in Tennessee. In addition to Hywater, she maintains an active law practice where she specializes in real estate law and business law.
In addition to her legal career, Jami serves on the Murfreesboro Planning Commission and the Murfreesboro City Council where she advocates for responsible urban planning and fiscal conservatism.

Tom Boyd is an investment advisor with Decker Wealth Management in Nashville, has more than four decades of experience in financial management and banking. He previously served as a senior vice president at Bank of America.
In addition to his role on the Jones College of Business Dean’s Executive Advisory Council, Boyd is a member of MTSU’s Board of Trustees, and the MTSU Foundation Board. He has served on the boards of the Southern Baptist Foundation, the Joseph’s Storehouse food ministry, and the Wilson County Fellowship of Christian Athletes, among others.
He and his wife established the endowment that funds the annual Tom and Martha Boyd Ethical Leadership9 Week at Jones College of Business as well as the Ethical Leadership Scholarship awarded to a Jones College student.

A dedicated servant leader, Courtney actively supports her community through board and committee work. She currently serves on the boards of the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter and the Rutherford County Library Foundation and is a member of the Executive Advisory Council for MTSU’s Jones College of Business.
Courtney has been recognized for her impact both professionally and civically. She was honored as a 2024 Nashville Business Journal Leaders in Diversity award winner for Outstanding Company Voice and was a two-time Rutherford Cable’s Athena Young Professional Nominee in 2018 and 2019.
Courtney earned her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Middle Tennessee State University and is deeply committed to her role as a community banker. She continues to champion local business success, community impact, and professional growth in all that she does.
Aubrey Harwell Jr.

Aubrey Harwell Jr. co-founded the firm of Neal & Harwell more than 50 years ago. He has transitioned to practice at Adams & Reece.
Harwell focuses his practice on major commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and crisis management.
He is a past member of the executive committee and board of Ingram Industries and the advisory board of FCA Venture Capital Funds. He is a former board member of Piedmont Natural Gas and holds the Chair of Excellence in Free Enterprise in the Jones College of Business at MTSU. He serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees for the Nashville School of Law and is involved in numerous nonprofits.
Harwell was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Southeastern Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, among numerous other recognitions. He is a senior fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, the trial lawyer honorary society, and has represented many high profile clients, including former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, Bridgestone/Firestone Corporation, the Tennessee Lottery, and WTVF-TV.

Joey Peay has served as CEO of Murfreesboro Medical Clinic since 2003. Before that, he was the clinic’s chief financial officer for four years.
Peay graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is a certified public accountant. He spent the first 10 years of his career with KPMG, an international public accounting firm, leaving as a senior manager in 1998.
He serves on the Jones College of Business Dean’s Executive Advisory Council and the Accounting Advisory Board at MTSU. He also has served as president of the Leadership Rutherford Council as well as chairman of the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee chapter, the Rutherford County chapters of the American Heart Association and March of Dimes, and the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department.
Peay is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Rutherford, a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the Medical Group Management Association, and a Certified Medical Practice Executive by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. He is also a member of the Tennessee Medical Association’s Legislative Committee and the executive council of the Tennessee Group Practice Coalition.

I oversee 700+ professionals in Nashville and am responsible for the strategy and direction of Deloitte’s client service, corporate citizenship, and diversity and inclusion efforts in the region. I am very active in the local community and serve on Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee Board of Directors.
