Executive Advisory Council
Purpose
The Dean’s Executive Advisory Council is a highly select and diverse group of business and community leaders who dedicate a portion of their time to enhancing, promoting, and resourcing the quality of business education at MTSU. As a group of experienced professionals, the council provides expert advice, leadership, and direction to Jones College. These efforts also serve to establish strong, dynamic linkages with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. In addition, the council will be instrumental in the ongoing evaluation process critical to the evolution and continuous improvement of the college’s vision and mission statements.

Jami Averwater

Owner
Jami Averwater is a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and Belmont University College of Law. She is the founder and CEO of Hywater Title, which has been noted as one of the fastest growing title companies in Tennessee. In addition to Hywater, she maintains an active law practice where she specializes in real estate law and business law.
In addition to her legal career, Jami serves on the Murfreesboro Planning Commission and the Murfreesboro City Council where she advocates for responsible urban planning and fiscal conservatism.


Tom Boyd

Investment Advisor
Tom Boyd is an investment advisor with Decker Wealth Management in Nashville, has more than four decades of experience in financial management and banking. He previously served as a senior vice president at Bank of America.
In addition to his role on the Jones College of Business Dean’s Executive Advisory Council, Boyd is a member of MTSU’s Board of Trustees, and the MTSU Foundation Board. He has served on the boards of the Southern Baptist Foundation, the Joseph’s Storehouse food ministry, and the Wilson County Fellowship of Christian Athletes, among others.
He and his wife established the endowment that funds the annual Tom and Martha Boyd Ethical Leadership9 Week at Jones College of Business as well as the Ethical Leadership Scholarship awarded to a Jones College student.

Courtney Chavez

Financial Advisor, Senior Vice President
Courtney Chavez is Senior Vice President at Pinnacle Financial Partners, where she is a Financial Advisor with a focus on relationship-driven banking. With 20 years of experience in consumer and small business banking, Courtney is known for her strategic insight, leadership, and passion for mentoring others.
A dedicated servant leader, Courtney actively supports her community through board and committee work. She currently serves on the boards of the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter and the Rutherford County Library Foundation and is a member of the Executive Advisory Council for MTSU’s Jones College of Business.
Courtney has been recognized for her impact both professionally and civically. She was honored as a 2024 Nashville Business Journal Leaders in Diversity award winner for Outstanding Company Voice and was a two-time Rutherford Cable’s Athena Young Professional Nominee in 2018 and 2019.
Courtney earned her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Middle Tennessee State University and is deeply committed to her role as a community banker. She continues to champion local business success, community impact, and professional growth in all that she does.


Andre Dyer

Andre R. Dyer is a seasoned business leader and talent strategist with deep expertise in executive search, human resources, and organizational growth. As the founder of Credoe Talent Solutions, he partners with C-suite leaders and boards to identify, attract, and secure top-tier executive talent across multiple industries, including healthcare, financial services, technology, and manufacturing.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Andre has led high-impact search engagements, guided leadership teams through complex hiring decisions, and advised organizations on building strong, sustainable leadership pipelines. His approach blends strategic insight with a rigorous assessment process to ensure alignment between leadership talent and long-term business objectives.


Yolanda Greene
First Horizon Bank
President, Rutherford County Market
Yolanda Greene has worked in the financial services industry since 2000. As a community bank president for First Horizon, she is currently focused on servicing clients and providing leadership to the Rutherford County market, supporting all lines of business.
Greene is a founding member of the Young Leaders Society of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties. She is also active in Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club, Rutherford Cable, and Boys & Girls Club of Rutherford County.
She is a former chair of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Tennessee Board of Regents, where she was chair of the Personnel and Finance committees. Greene is a graduate of Leadership Rutherford. In 2021, she was recognized as a Woman of Influence by the Nashville Business Journal, which included her in its 40 Under 40 honorees in 2017. She was the 2018 recipient of Rutherford Cable’s Young Professional Athena International Award.


Aubrey Harwell Jr.

Aubrey Harwell Jr. co-founded the firm of Neal & Harwell more than 50 years ago. He has transitioned to practice at Adams & Reece.
Harwell focuses his practice on major commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and crisis management.
He is a past member of the executive committee and board of Ingram Industries and the advisory board of FCA Venture Capital Funds. He is a former board member of Piedmont Natural Gas and holds the Chair of Excellence in Free Enterprise in the Jones College of Business at MTSU. He serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees for the Nashville School of Law and is involved in numerous nonprofits.
Harwell was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Southeastern Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, among numerous other recognitions. He is a senior fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, the trial lawyer honorary society, and has represented many high profile clients, including former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, Bridgestone/Firestone Corporation, the Tennessee Lottery, and WTVF-TV.

Joseph Howard

Principal
Joseph Howard is a seasoned healthcare executive and strategic advisor with 30+ years of industry experience, including 18 years of progressive leadership prior to founding Premier Healthcare Consulting, LLC in 2011. With a BS in Industrial Engineering, Joseph has led major initiatives in contract negotiations, provider network development, operations, and strategic planning across multiple markets.
He is a licensed and ordained minister, who believes that faith must be combined with purposeful work to transform lives, strengthen communities, and create lasting change.
Joseph serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the MTSU Jones School of Business, Treasurer and board member for Community Helpers of Rutherford County and board member of Happy Hearts Smile. He is a former American Cancer Society board member and past President of the Nashville Chapter of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.
He is committed to elevating training, strengthening relationships, improving implementation, and advancing healthcare delivery through strategic insight and operational excellence.


Eric Meriwether
Northwestern Mutual
Managing Director
Eric L. Meriwether has been in the financial industry for over 18 years, establishing a practice built on client advocacy, strategic financial planning, and intergenerational wealth creation. He currently serves as Growth and Development Director with Northwestern Mutual, where he focuses on recruiting, mentoring, and developing new financial agents and advisors while working closely with business owners, corporate executives, and medical professionals.
Meriwether began his financial services career in 2004 with SunTrust Bank, quickly moving into management roles and successfully leading financial centers for both SunTrust and Fifth Third Bank. In 2014, he transitioned from his role as Vice President and Branch Manager to dedicate his efforts entirely to comprehensive financial planning.
A dedicated servant leader, Meriwether actively supports his community through extensive board and civic involvement. He is a founding member and President of the R.I.S.E. Coalition, a non-profit dedicated to bridging the gap between ideas and action in Rutherford County communities of color. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for Empowerment, Inc., the Rutherford County Disciplinary Review Board, and was appointed to the Murfreesboro City Investment Study Group.
Meriwether has been recognized broadly for both professional excellence and leadership potential. He was named a “Best In Finance” honoree at the 2018 Power Moves Awards and was one of only 30 leaders nationwide selected to participate in the Multicultural Leadership Program (MLP) to enhance leadership competencies and career trajectory.
Meriwether earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Business Management from the Jennings A. Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University and is a graduate of Leadership Rutherford. He is deeply committed to spreading the message of practical financial stewardship and lifelong learning.

Joey Peay

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic
Chief Executive Officer
Joey Peay has served as CEO of Murfreesboro Medical Clinic since 2003. Before that, he was the clinic’s chief financial officer for
four years.
Peay graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is a certified public accountant. He spent the first 10 years of his career with KPMG, an international public accounting firm, leaving as a senior manager in 1998.
He serves on the Jones College of Business Dean’s Executive Advisory Council and the Accounting Advisory Board at MTSU. He also has served as
president of the Leadership Rutherford Council as well as chairman of the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee chapter, the Rutherford County chapters of the American Heart Association and March of Dimes, and the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department.
Peay is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Rutherford, a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the Medical Group Management Association, and a Certified Medical Practice Executive by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. He is also a member of the Tennessee Medical Association’s Legislative Committee and the executive council of the Tennessee Group Practice Coalition.


Joy Rich

Manager of Workforce Development and Community Relationships
Dr. Joy Rich brings 24 years of experience in K-12, postsecondary education, and workforce development, currently serving as the Manager of Workforce Development and Community Relationships for Nissan North America. A proud alumna of Middle Tennessee State University, Dr. Rich holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Education, a Master’s in Business Education, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership.
Dr. Rich is a staunch advocate for the principle that “A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats,” dedicating her career to dismantling barriers and creating opportunities for growth. She was instrumental in establishing the Nissan Centers of Excellence, aligning K-12 education with industry needs through technical training and work-based learning. Her leadership bridges the gap between education and industry, preparing a dynamic and resilient future workforce.
At Nissan, she drives initiatives connecting underrepresented communities with career pathways in the automotive industry. Through her visionary leadership, Dr. Rich fosters strategic partnerships that support workforce development and community engagement, shaping a workforce ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges.

Nathan Swartz
Amazon
Senior Manager, Middle Mile Fleet Management
Nathan Swartz has been a Senior Manager at Amazon since 2020. His team is responsible for supply chain and maintenance operations supporting over 700 sites in North America, Brazil and Mexico.
Prior to joining Amazon, he spent 24 years in the U.S. Army as a Logistics Officer retiring as a Colonel. He led Soldiers and Department of the Army civilians at the company, battalion and brigade level. His last assignment in the Army was as the Chief of Staff for the White House COVID-19 Supply Chain Task Force during the pandemic.
A native of Tullahoma Tennessee, he graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s of Science-Political Science and was commissioned as an Army Officer through their ROTC program. He served in Europe, the Pacific and the Middle East being recognized with a Defense Superior Service Award, the Legion of Merit, 5 Bronze Stars Medals, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 6 Meritorious Service Medals and other awards during his career. While in the Army, he continued his education completing two Master’s Degrees: MS-Business & Supply Chain Management from the University of Kansas and a MS-Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. Nathan has been married to his wife, Holly, for over 20 years and they have two children.

Deborah Thompson is an Executive Leadership Coach and sole roprietor of Connect Leadership Coaching. Deborah retired from her position as Vice President for State Farm Insurance and Financial Services in 2020. She held numerous leadership positions with State Farm, including Agency Field Consultant, Agency Field Executive, Development Agency Field Executive, and Executive Assistant to the Chairman’s Council at corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois.
She currently serves on the board of directors for United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, Rutherford Cable, Nourish Food Bank, the Executive Advisory Council for Jones College of Business, and the Global Advisory Board, Women United.
She has received numerous awards during her tenure in Middle Tennessee, including, the Athena International Leadership Award, the Linda Gilbert Advocacy Award, the Rutherford County Chamber Business Person of the year, and the Jones College Champion of Free Enterprise Award.


David Tincher

Manufacturing Director
David Tincher is from Charleston, WV. David graduated from WVU in with bachelor’s degrees in electronic engineering and industrial management in 1993. David’s career in industry began with American Electric Power in the Fuel Supply and Mining Division.
He moved into the consumer-packaged goods industry with Pepsi in 1994 as a maintenance supervisor and progressed to operations manager. In 1998 David joined Pillsbury as a Maintenance Manager at the Murfreesboro TN plant. Since General Mills acquired Pillsbury in 2001, David moved to has since held positions of increasing responsibility at General Mills including Production Manager at Murfreesboro, Operations Manager at the Martel Ohio dry mix plant, Operations Business Manager for the cereal division in Minneapolis, and Plant Manager of the Buffalo NY cereal and flour milling plant from 2006 – 20014. In 2014, David returned Murfreesboro, promoted to Site Manufacturing Director of the Murfreesboro TN site leading both the Pillsbury and Yoplait plants at the site. The Murfreesboro General Mills site is one of the largest foods producing facilities of refrigerated dough and yogurt in the world.
While in Murfreesboro, David obtained his MBA in 2001 from the Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University and is a proud Blue Raider supporter. David resides here in Murfreesboro with his wife of 33 years, Lori. David and Lori have two children who both also graduated from MTSU.

Nashville Managing Partner
As managing partner of Deloitte’s Nashville practice, I bring 20+ years of public accounting experience serving clients across a variety of industries. I oversee 700+ professionals in Nashville and am responsible for the strategy and direction of Deloitte’s client service, corporate citizenship, and diversity and inclusion efforts in the region. I am very active in the local community and serve on Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee Board of Directors.
In addition to these leadership responsibilities, my experience at Deloitte includes advising some of our largest and most complex clients in multiple industry sectors such as healthcare, consumer products, hospitality, and technology. This includes private companies, emerging growth companies and large accelerated SEC filers. These are dynamic engagements that include the exceptional people, technology and unique capabilities that Deloitte offers.
