Study Abroad Scholarship Information

Study abroad participation allows students to experience another culture firsthand, expand their worldviews, and enhance future employment opportunities. To encourage an international education experience, the Dean provides $1,000 Study Abroad Scholarships* to students based on the following criteria:

  1. Must be a degree‐seeking undergraduate student admitted to Jones College (majoring or minoring in a discipline in Jones College) or a graduate student in Jones College;
  2. Must be a student in good academic standing with a minimum INCLUSIVE GPA requirement of 2.0 for summer or other short-term; 2.5 for semester/academic year (GPA requirements are FIRM) at the application deadline of March 15;
  3. Must meet study abroad course prerequisites; and
  4. Study abroad coursework must be taken for academic credit and used toward Jones College degree requirements.

A student seeking funding from the Jones College Dean’s Office must:

  1. Contact the MTSU Education Abroad office before submitting a request for funding from Jones College;
  2. Meet the requirements and complete the application for the study abroad program to which the student is applying; and
  3. Review these guidelines and complete the JCB-Commitment-Acceptance-Form.pdf (mtsu.edu). This is required before any travel abroad.
    1. Students pursuing an MTSU Faculty-Lead Study Abroad must submit the scholarship application to the faculty member, who will then submit the entire group’s documents to the Dean’s Office.
    2. Students pursuing a Non-Faculty-Lead Study Abroad must submit the scholarship application and the Course Approval Form > Education Abroad (studioabroad.com) to the Dean’s Office (BAS N219).

Once all documents are received and the scholarship is approved, funds are placed into the student’s MTSU account in the study abroad coursework semester. If the student fails to enroll or travel, those funds will be deducted from the student’s account.

Funding for any Jones College student is limited to one trip per academic year for either domestic or international travel. Funding for study abroad is limited to once during the student’s academic career at MTSU.

Jones College of Business is a professional school. While abroad, students are expected to always conduct themselves as articulate and supportive ambassadors of Jones College and MTSU. Studies abroad are, primarily, learning experiences. All students are expected to engage in productive activities that are related to study abroad in a positive manner. As they prepare for a study abroad experience, students should consider their responsibility to professionally represent Jones College of Business, Middle Tennessee State University, and themselves.

*NOTE: Financial aid determines final eligibility. (Students receiving other forms of financial aid may not receive the scholarship if it will cause them to exceed their allowable Total Cost of Attendance calculation.)
